Job Description(s): Summer Intern Program
AJG is seeking qualified candidates for its Summer Intern Program. This program presents a hands-on learning experience in a supportive, mentoring environment that provides participants with a realistic look at an insurance brokering and consulting career.
In our program, we will teach you basic insurance concepts, and show you what a broker does and where Gallagher fits in the world of insurance. The experience provides you with a chance to assess a sales and consulting career in insurance, while Gallagher evaluates your potential as a future broker.
The optimal internship experience spans two summers-beginning the summer before your junior year and concluding the summer before your senior year. Each summer consists of a nine-week program that includes a week of orientation with Interns from across the country. During this orientation week you will be introduced to many facets of both the insurance industry and our company. You will also have a chance to meet our division heads, operational leaders and successful producers (sales professionals) who serve as instructors-many of whom are former Gallagher interns.
The remaining weeks of the internship include many opportunities for growth and development. You will work on your presentation skills, observe the sales cycle and negotiation process and learn about various insurance risks and coverage. The primary activity in the program is to shadow successful brokers as they work and participate in different phases of the sales cycle. As an intern, you are not responsible for selling, but you will gain an understanding of the process while helping to prepare proposals, gather data and accompany producers as they make sales calls, meet with clients and negotiate with vendor partners.
Job Description(s): Successful candidates for our program must have a balanced profile of success in both academic and extracurricular activities in their high school and college experiences. We are looking for students with above-average grades and a resume that reflects involvement in a variety of activities like sports, speech team, student government, community service projects, clubs or part-time jobs. Other strengths should include excellent people skills and a competitive nature.
The program is open to college men and women from all areas of academic study who are interested in exploring a consulting and business to business sales career path.
It is ideal to begin the program before their junior year and participate for two years, but we will consider those entering their senior year who can participate for only one summer. We do not recruit freshmen or post-graduate students.
