Digital Literacy Contest (September 10, 2008)

Serious Games for Serious Learning: Harnessing the Digital Generation (April 11, 2008)
A 2-hour talk and panel discussion, led by Rusty Rueff and with 6 panelists from Purdue, will be part of the Presidential inauguration activities. Panel discussion will take place in the Commons of the Lawson Computer Science Building. Rusty Rueff, chief executive officer of SNOCAP Inc. and former vice president of human resources for Electronic Arts, is the moderator. Rueff earned a bachelor's degree in radio and television in 1984 and a master's degree in counseling in 1986 from Purdue.

Best Gen-Nano Game Competition (March 21, 2008)
The Network for Computational Nanotechnology (NCN) is accepting proposals from students on Purdue West Lafayette campus interested in designing a storyboard for an interactive K-12 learning activity to be published within one of the learning modules of the generation-nano.org website, which aims to excite middle school children about science by teaching them nanotechnology concepts. The individual or team authors of the three winning storyboards will receive cash awards of up to $300. Additional prizes will be awarded to authors of activities selected for implementation.

Serious Games for Serious Learning: Harnessing the Digital Generation (Oct 11 - 12, 2007)
The Serious Games Research Forum brought together teachers and scholars who study commercial games that have persuasive ability and serious games in the more traditional sense. The participants are coming together to talk about issues of race and gender in games and the creation of games; cognition, education, and literacy skills and gaming practices; and the use of online virtual worlds as educational environments. Keynote speaker was James McGee of Arizona State University. Press Release

Gaming Forum (April, 2007)
The Discovery Learning Center, located in Purdue's Discovery Park, conducted an industry- focused gaming forum in April, and featured serious games experts from BreakAway Games, Microsoft, Lauer and Associates and the Naval Postgraduate School.

Talk by Marc Prensky (April, 2007)
Marc Prensky, author of "Don't Bother Me Mom - I'm Learning" came to campus.

Games-to-Teach competition (March 1, 2007)
The Discovery Learning Center launched a Games-to-Teach competition in which a winning proposal received $150,000 to design a serious game for a university-level course at Purdue. A team of professors from the College of Engineering, Dan DeLaurentis, Sean Brophy and David Ebert, submitted the winning proposal  and are currently developing a game-based version of Introduction to Aerospace Design (AAE 251), a second-year course in aeronautics and astronautics. The new course will be introduced in fall 2009.
